Meet Lauren Hodge, Aiden Lodo, Jason Croucher, Anna and Adam Brayshaw, Kelly Curteis and Charlotte Parry-Okeden.

They are all the names behind the faces that keep Newcastle Anglican’s Scone Grammar School functioning.

From classroom teachers to full-time cleaners, admin staff and P&F committee, each play a vital role in the success of the Upper Hunter education hub.

But here’s something you might not know about them – they are also the names of active volunteers within their communities outside the school gates.

While Lauren has been volunteering at Scone Girl Guides for more than a decade, Aiden is a Scouts leader who also regularly dons an orange vest for the local SES.

Jason spends his weekends offering his talents to his local junior rugby league club.

And Scone Junior Cricket Club couldn’t do without the many hours of volunteering Anna, Adam and Kelly have given over the years.

Whether it’s staffing a canteen, scoring, coaching, washing uniforms, fundraising or cleaning, volunteers are quite simply the backbone of many businesses and community groups.

Without them, many couldn’t survive.

So, to all of our team members who donate their time and energy, not only within our organisation, but also in the community, we’d like to say a huge thank you.

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering.

Held from 19-25 May 2025, the annual event highlights the important role of volunteers in our community and invites people not currently volunteering to give it a go.

This year, National Volunteer Week fell at a time when parts of NSW were declared a natural disaster area following days of unprecedented rainfall that left townships flooded and isolated.

Many of the volunteers within our organisation were called to assist in emergency and recovery tasks.
