Working with a laptop and walking to different classrooms is the most exciting thing about starting high school.

That’s according to Scone Grammar School Year 7 twins Nathan and Ryan Rankmore.

Having learnt in separate classrooms in the past, this year they will be kickstarting their secondary education together.

The pair (pictured below) is one of three sets of twins enrolled in Year 7 at the Upper Hunter K to 12 learning hub.

Nathan and Ryan will be joined by fellow double acts Jacob and Olivia Weeks and Mackenzie and Regan Catling.

Scone Grammar School Principal Paul Smart said staff and students were thrilled to see familiar and new faces around the grounds this week.

“With the year underway and all students returning to classrooms, we are very excited about all the learning opportunities that are ahead of us,” he said.

“The school community is buzzing with excitement, and all appear to be settling in well.

“There is a great deal to look forward to this year, with plenty of opportunities to bring our school community together.”

Aside from multiple twins, Scone Grammar School has welcomed a broad range of nationalities into its freshest batch of primary school students.

Its Kindergarten class boasts children with family backgrounds from Ukraine, India, Russia, Philippines, France, Egypt, Iraq, Ireland, England, and Estonia.

“Our Kindergarten’s cultural diversity presents a valuable opportunity to introduce children to a variety of cultures, fostering an environment of inclusivity,” Scone Grammar School Kindergarten and Stage 1 coordinator Julie Jones said.

“This diversity also enables us to engage with parents and family members, enriching our understanding of their experiences.

“As a result, families feel more connected to the school community and are actively involved in their children’s educational journey.”

The school’s newest cohort helps make up its largest number of enrolments to date.

After completing the construction of its Administration and Secondary Teaching & Learning Centre at the start of 2024, Scone Grammar now boasts capacity classes in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 6, with waitlists filling fast.

“Expanding student and teacher numbers has meant we are able to offer more elective choices for our students like Primary Industries, Personal Interest Project, and Investigating Science,” School Registrar Amanda Darling said.

“Scone Grammar is a school going through a huge growth phase.

“We accept enrolments throughout the year. The earlier students apply for enrolment the more chance they have of receiving a place.”
