The Very Reverend Katherine Bowyer was Commissioned and Installed as the first female Dean of Newcastle at Christ Church Cathedral on Wednesday October 4.
A full Cathedral congregation came together for the Festal Evensong to celebrate the 16th Dean of Newcastle.
Representatives from the Parish of Cardiff thanked Dean Katherine for her ministry and commended her to the service of the Cathedral.
Dean Katherine was presented with the Symbols of Ministry from a number of representatives, including the Cathedral Wardens, the Archdeacon of Newcastle, Sonia Roulston, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Lake Macquarie, the Reverend Fr Andrew Doohan, Dean of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart (representing the Christian churches), and representatives from Newcastle Grammar School.
Bishop Peter Stuart, the Bishop Administrator, said, “People of the Cathedral, Diocese and City, I present to you the Dean of Newcastle.” Dean Katherine was welcomed with applause and a standing ovation.
As newly appointed Dean, the Very Reverend Katherine then installed the Reverend Michael Davies as Selwyn Canon.
