St Augustine’s Anglican Church on Llewellyn St, Merewether has been successful for an $85,946 grant for heritage conservation from the NSW Liberal National Government.

Member of the Legislative Council, The Hon Taylor Martin MLC said the Heritage Near Me Strategic Project funding would go towards the conservation and reconstruction of St Augustine’s Church by Heritage Restorations; a half day heritage building skills workshop; the development of an Asset Maintenance Plan; and a History of St Augustine’s Church.

“St Augustine’s Church was dedicated in 1889 and has been a part of the history of Merewether since that time,” Mr Martin said.

“It is pleasing the see the NSW Government support the conservation of local heritage for current and future generations.

“Helping communities to conserve and share their local heritage is a key feature of the Heritage Near Me Local Heritage Strategic Projects funding stream.”

Priority is given to projects that are collaborative and multi-disciplinary, support long-term sustainability through the transfer of skills, knowledge and experience, address an identified community need and increase awareness of local heritage values.
