Manning Valley Anglican College has found a fresh way to help others flourish – by giving back to those who share a common connection.

With the help of its Parents & Friends (P&F) committee, parents, school staff and students, the Cundletown-based learning hub has raised $1700 for Samaritans at its annual Mother’s Day celebrations.

The funds are the result of the sale of $2 raffle tickets.

More than three months in the making, it took the school community just four weeks to sell enough tickets to generate the sizeable donation for its local charity.

The efforts were part of the school’s annual Mother’s Day fundraising campaign.

After approaching numerous local businesses and services, MVAC was gifted several generous donations, with sponsors stretching as far away as Pokolbin, Newcastle and Coffs Harbour.

Prizes included a two-night stay at Hunter Valley Gardens, a family pass to a Newcastle Knights (Newcastle-based NRL Club) game, day passes to The Big Banana (tourist attraction in Coffs Harbour), and tickets to Inflatable World in Taree.

This year’s donation represents a first-time collaboration between two Newcastle Anglican mastheads: MVAC a Newcastle Anglican school, and Samaritans the social-welfare arm of Newcastle Anglican.

MVAC P&F president Donna Yarnold says she hopes the school will continue to donate to worthy causes.

The who has six grandchildren at the school and has been volunteering in the role for less than 12 months, says her first MVAC Mother’s Day event has been very rewarding.

“The community has been very, very generous this year, even businesses outside our local community, and we are very grateful.

“It’s very rewarding to fundraise, not only for the school, but to be able to give back to the community by giving to Samaritans is fantastic.

“It’s been nice to see outcomes for all the work we do.”
