On Monday 10 April, Samaritans celebrated Youth Week with a community event organised in consultation with young people in the Hamilton South area.
There was a great turn out from the community with over 150 people attending to enjoy a BBQ, games, workshops, entertainment and cultural activities. Each young person also received a show bag full of information resources and goodies.
“What made this event stand out was that we were able to partner up with students from Newcastle TAFE who were studying a Certificate 4 in Youth Work. They were able to assist in running the event, as well as many of them performing, singing, playing the guitar, the haka and rapping,” Rachelle Wills, event organiser said.
