Samaritans hosted a special Seniors Week event in Hamilton South today to celebrate healthy living and ageing with live entertainment, activities and a free barbeque.
Guests enjoyed live entertainment starring Newcastle singer Mick Fetch, bingo with some great prizes and an art & craft workshop.
Samaritans also provided free haircuts and health checks to those in the community.
Guests kicked back and relaxed with hand massages complimentary of Priceline Pharmacy. HeartMoves, a low-to-moderate intensity exercise program designed for people who are living with health condition, also ran a workshop to promote healthy living and ageing.
Event organiser, Rebecca Fowles, said this event provided a valuable opportunity for seniors to learn about events in the community and have their say about future events.
“We have worked with tenants that live in Hamilton South to plan this event so it is responding to local needs and interests.
It provides an opportunity for seniors within the community to come out and connect with their neighbours and local services,” she said.
The 2016 NSW Seniors Festival theme is Grow Young.
“It’s about celebrating our seniors for their energy, experience and unique ability to know who they are, and what makes them happy. No matter what your age, it’s never too late to grow – to learn, to laugh and to be inspired,” Mrs Fowles said.
