Registered supporters are assigned by individuals to help you make and communicate your decisions in aged care.
From 1 November 2025, the registered supporter role in the new Aged Care Act will replace existing regular and authorised representative relationships in My Aged Care.
In preparation for the change, you and your representatives should discuss whether you want them to transition into a registered supporter relationship.
Transitioning your registered supporter
If you are happy for your authorised or regular representative to transition to a registered supporter, this will automatically transfer on 1 November 2025.
Having a registered supporter does not prevent you from making decisions for yourself.
Older people with a registered supporter can continue to request, receive and communicate information and make decisions. They can also have more than one registered supporter.

Opting out of the transition
If you or your regular representative do not want to move to a supporter relationship, either of you can stop this from happening at any time before 1 November. This is called ‘opting out’. You can do this by calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422, or through their My Aged Care Online Accounts.
If you have an authorised representative, only they will be able to opt out as a registered supporter. This is because an authorised representative relationship would have been created in circumstances where the older person did not have the decision-making capacity.
My Aged Care representative relationships that have not been opted out will transition to registered supporter relationships. However, should things change, you can opt out at any time.
