We believe in the relationship with God through Jesus Christ

Our life and work are inspired by our relationship with God, the Holy Trinity—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Being made in the image of God, we flourish in relationships of love. Our community is one of love and acceptance.

Our mission is people flourishing because of what we do, inspired by the way of Jesus.

We affirm the sacramental and preaching ministry of women and men. We rejoice that women and men are both called by God to ministry as laity, deacons, priests, and bishops.

We believe that God has created all humanity in his image. God is calling people from diverse backgrounds to build flourishing communities. Newcastle Anglican affirms that all people are created equal. We seek to nurture respectful engagement where there is difference.

Our strong commitment is based at the heart of the Christian faith. It teaches us that all people should be treated with dignity and equality.

The operations and culture of Newcastle Anglican are guided by our six core values, our mission, our service philosophy, and our Environmental, Social, and Governance policy.

Environmental

Newcastle Anglican acknowledges the traditional custodianship of the First Nations of the land on which we work and minister.

We are committed to treating this land with great respect by operating in an environmentally responsible manner.

We accept that climate change threatens humanity and our planet. We strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and to sustain and renew life on earth.

We commit to:

  • Achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040,
  • Reduce our impact on climate change,
  • Reduce pollution,
  • Conserve natural resources,
  • Promote environmental education and stewardship.

Social

Newcastle Anglican believes everyone is created equal. We acknowledge and celebrate the uniqueness of everyone.

We actively promote safety and inclusion for LGBTIQA+ people, First Nations peoples, and anyone who is culturally diverse, aging, vulnerable, or living with disability. Newcastle Anglican strives to foster meaningful relationships with our key stakeholders, to help them flourish.

Governance

Newcastle Anglican puts people at the centre of our work. We believe transparent and accountable governance helps us to achieve this for our employees and the people we support.

We are committed to:

  • A culture of continuous improvement,
  • Ethical business behaviour,
  • Compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies.

Our commitment to First Nations Peoples

We recognise the 60,000-year-old history of the land on which we work and minister. Australia’s history can not be reduced 235 years.

We believe in reconciliation with the First Nations Peoples of this land.

Newcastle Anglican strongly supports a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous Voice to the Parliament.

Our commitment to inclusion

Our community is a place of inclusion and belonging for all persons. Newcastle Anglican affirms all people are created equal.

We are facing the past, lamenting the mistakes, and working to shape a healthy future for all.

We promote and uplift anyone who has been marginalised.

Comprehensive Anglicanism

The bishops, clergy and laity of the Diocese strive to see a comprehensive expression of Anglicanism flow through Newcastle Anglican. We wish for all people to flourish because of what we do, inspired by the way of Jesus.

We are guided by:

  • The Fundamental Declaration,
  • The Five Marks of Mission of the Anglican Communion,
  • The authorized forms of Anglican worship.

The Five Marks of Mission

The Five Marks of Mission are an important statement on mission.

They express the Anglican Communion’s common commitment to, and understanding of, God’s holistic and integral mission.

The mission of the Church is the mission of Christ.

  • To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
  • To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
  • To respond to human need by loving service
  • To transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation
  • To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth
