Today’s Newcastle Herald has published an article that relates to the work of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and a hearing related to the Diocese.

Although the Diocese has not received formal notification from the Commission, it is foreshadowed that a two week public hearing into Newcastle Anglican Diocese is intended to be held in Newcastle from 1 August to 12 August.

“I welcome the opportunity for Newcastle to have this important inquiry into the church’s life and into serious matters that have been raised over many years concerning the abuse that took place,” Bishop Thompson said.

“It provides the opportunity to understand the culture and conduct that allowed perpetrators to work in our church.”

The Diocese continues to urge everyone who has been abused or who has information about abuse to come forward. You will be heard and your matters will be taken very seriously.

Our first concern remains with survivors and those closest to them. They can contact the Director of Professional Standards on 1800 774945. The contact number for the Royal Commission is 1800 099 340.

Bishop Greg commends all of these matters to your prayers.
