A Service of Prayer for Recovery in Time of Drought and Bushfire

Last Monday evening 100 or so people from across the Diocese of Newcastle and our partner churches gathered in our Cathedral for “A Service of Prayer for Recovery in this Time of Drought and Bushfire”.  We have been very aware of people across the country, including in our Diocese, whose lives have been impacted by the devastating fires around the country.  The ongoing drought is also a cause of concern, with our regional areas deeply affected.

The opportunity to come together and pray was an important one.  The service had a tone of lament as we prayed for affected people and towns.  As a symbol of the people’s prayers for our thirsty land gum places were placed in water by those attending.

People wishing to support those in the Dioceses of Canberra Goulburn and Gippsland may do so direct:

The Bishops of both Dioceses have expressed their thanks and appreciation for the prayerful and other support of so many during this crisis.
